Summary
OH-equivalent temperatures derived from measurements made by the SABER instrument on board the TIMED satellite and the MLS instrument on board the Aura satellite are compared with rotational temperatures derived from OH(6-2) band emissions observed with an Czerny-Turner spectrometer deployed at Davis Station, Antarctica (68°S, 78°E). The study examines 8 years of SABER temperature profiles and 6 years of Aura profiles within a circle of 500 km radius from the ground station. All profiles selected for examination were recorded with solar zenith angles greater than 97 degrees. A number of different approaches have been investigated for the calculation of the OH-equivalent values. The study examines some of the issues involved in using satellite data as a transfer standard for measurements made by ground-based instruments at different locations.
