Summary

The Australian Climate Ocean Model (AusCOM) is an initiative by the Australian climate sciences community (including government and academic research laboratories) towards a unified coupled ocean-ice model for climate applications. The technical configuration and details of the sub-models are presented here. Initial results, including the development of a displaced pole bipolar ocean grid, are also discussed. An outlook for future model development and of further community model systems are reported on.
