Summary
Past and recent dissolved iron (dFe) and total dissolvable iron (TDFe) datasets from the Atlantic Meridional Transect (AMT) program are presented. The data clearly shows the strong influence of shelf margins and atmospheric inputs on iron concentrations in the North Atlantic Gyre and equatorial regions. Labile Fe(II) data, determined by flow injection analysis, are presented and discussed in terms of redox processes in the euphotic zone. In addition, the presentation features details of the sampling and pretreatment protocols used during the studies and details of further iron speciation studies due to take place on AMT cruises.
