Valine substituted winter flounder 'antifreeze': preservation of ice growth hysteresis. FEBS Letters, 1998 (Ref: 8358)
Category 1: Peer-reviewed literature

Three mutant polypeptides of the type I 37-residue winter flounder antifreeze protein have been synthesized. All four threonine residues in the native peptide have been mutated to serine…

Systematics and biology of Macquarie Island echinoderms. Memoirs of the Museum of Victoria, 1998 (Ref: 8668)
Authors:
Category 1: Peer-reviewed literature

Fifty-two echinoderm species are recorded from off Macquarie Island and the Macquarie Ridge in the Southern Ocean. One new asteroid Odontohenricia anarea sp. nov. and one new holothurian Trachythyone nelladana sp. nov. are described. The asteroid genus Calvasterias is synonymised with Anasterias.

Subantarctic Macquarie Island - a model ecosystem for studying animal-derived nitrogen sources using 15 N natural abundance. Oecologia, 1998 (Ref: 8650)
Category 1: Peer-reviewed literature

Plants collected from diverse sites on subantarctic Macquarie Island varied by up to 30‰ in their leaf 15N values. 15N natural abundance of plants, soils…

Food requirements of breeding king penguins at Heard Island and potential overlap with commercial fisheries Polar Biology, 1998 (Ref: 9484)
Category 1: Peer-reviewed literature

The diet composition of King penguins Aptenodytes patagonicus at Heard Island (53°05S; 73°30E) was determined from stomach contents of 98 adults captured as they returned to the island throughout 1992. During the two growth seasons…

Diet of adelie penguins pygoscelis adeliae at Shirley Island, East Entarctica, January 1992 Marine Ornithology, 1998 (Ref: 9483)
Category 1: Peer-reviewed literature

Stomach samples were collected from 41 Adelie penguins Pygoscelis adeliae attending young chicks at Shirley Island, near Casey Station (66°20S, 110°25E) from 8-14 January 1992. The mean mass of stomach samples was 411±115 g, about 10% of mean adult body mass (4.2±0.4 kg). By mass…

Origin of Macquarie Island echinoderms Polar Biology, 1998 (Ref: 8391)
Authors:
Category 1: Peer-reviewed literature

The origin of echinoderms from Macquarie Island in the Southern Ocean is analyzed through a novel application of multivariate statistics. Ordinations are produced from a combination of species distribution, bathymetric, habitat and life history data in order to assess patterns of migration.
