Summary
The pelagic distributions and relative abundances of 57 taxa of seabirds (50 species and seven species groups), comprising 38 905 records of 323 870 individuals are mapped on a monthly basis. The data were collected from research cruises and resupply vessels in the southern Indian Ocean, between 60 deg E and 160 deg E, and between 40 deg S and the Antarctic Continent. The records, collected in the 10 years 1981 to 1990, were made in all months except August, with the majority made in October to March.
