With heartfelt gratitude to all involved, Voyage 4 set sail from Macquarie Wharf No. 3 at 1305 yesterday. The successful launch of any voyage owes itself to the dedication of teams across the AAD. We extend our sincere appreciation to the myriad teams whose efforts paved the way for our departure. Also, we acknowledge the unwavering support of our families and friends, whose encouragement emboldens us to embark on these amazing adventures.
As we embarked, we were graced by the presence of a pod of dolphins, escorting us into open waters. Our transition into the Southern Ocean has been smooth, with swells averaging around 3 meters. These favourable conditions have allowed for productive briefings and meetings, with minimal disruptions from seasickness, which is an encouraging start, but one that also sees long queues for meals persisting with 132 people on board. We are trying to find the elusive supplies of peppermint and licorice tea, we'll keep you posted about our search.
We've held discussions and briefings about life and safety aboard the Nuyina, our voyage objectives, watercraft and helicopter operations, cargo handling, refuelling procedures, and comprehensive planning sessions for holistic resupply activities. In the early hours of this morning, we moved our clocks forward one hour (to UTC+11) to better take advantage of the daylight hours available to us at Macca for the resupply operations. Tonight, we eagerly anticipate a captivating talk on auroras by one of our skilled watercraft operators. Tomorrow promises further briefings and meetings as we diligently plan our approach to Macquarie Island, scheduled for Saturday morning.
REGARDS: Brendan, Jenn, and Nick
