How many times has weather been mentioned in SITREPS for V3?
Well today is another one. Nuyina is on location of the whale mooring and although not a sunny windless day, the weather was good enough to recovery the whale mooring. The call was made to recover once we completed ranging (distance and bearing) to the mooring so Nuyina knew the exact location for retrieval.
During the 22 minutes of ascent to the surface, many pairs of eyes were peeled to spot the yellow buoys and attached mooring soon after it broke the surface. Luckily, the mooring popped up right where we wanted and was spotted by one of our embarked expeditions, to which a small prize was presented. The recovery of the mooring is the more complex of the operations and takes teamwork and skill from the bridge to the deck. Well done to all involved, it was a smooth operation.
Not yet quite done, the evolution turned to the deployment of the new mooring, again successful, and then our task here was complete.
Regards, Chris, Andrew and Nate
