Comments

Although currently unsuccessful in finding a suitable weather window to launch in, Nuyina has spent the time with the acoustic team mapping the bathymetry of an area east of Mawson between approximately 4 and 12 nautical miles offshore Nilsen Bay and the Strahan Glacier. There are some really deep sections being mapped of a depth of 1200 metres plus.
These two locations were named by Sir Douglas Mawson on the British Australian and New Zealand Antarctic Research Expedition of 1931. Reflecting back almost 97 years from the comfort of Nuyina one can only imagine the conditions early explorers experienced.
The 1931 expedition was conducted onboard the RRS Discovery, a barque-rigged auxiliary steamship, a traditional wooden three-masted ship of the times.
Regards, Chris & Andrew
