Nuyina headed out Kista Strait yesterday on a beautiful night that made the snow and ice around Mawson a unique shade of pink. Nuyina then began the night job of mapping the ocean floor on the approaches to Mawson.
For the Master and the bridge team, it is an interesting and challenging task of taking the ship where someone has gone before, but without the facility to map it so accurately and comprehensively. As a result, for the first time, a 3D image of the seafloor and all it's dramatic contours and convolutions can be seen.
Nuyina arrived back at our 'parking' position off West Arm this morning ready for another cargo day. The weather also permitted the deployment of scientists in three Inflatable Rubber Boats (IRB) for important work related to sea birds
