Comments

All on board are happy and well. We spent the night heaved to in winds averaging 50 knots, gusting to over 80 knots. Nuyina provides a comfortable ride even in these conditions. As foreshadowed, we will stay at sea until the wind abates sufficiently to return to harbour and consequently there will be no cargo ops today. We remain hopeful of being able to recommence cargo operations on the afternoon of Saturday 6 January. V2 remains on track for a return to Hobart by January 16 with only two or so days of cargo ops left to be completed.

At the time of writing our acousticians are working to get the multi-beam bathymetry system working; heavy seas have made it hard to consistently acquire and track the sea floor. Nuyina's crew will run a series of emergency drills today with the assistance of the ship's doctor (with perhaps a spectator or two). Whilst the crew remain hard at work, for some of us there is some R&R to be enjoyed. For our hardier souls this includes standing outside for brief periods to be whipped by icy spray and wind.

Regards

Keith & Nick
