All on board are happy and well. We had a beautiful low-wind and low-cloud day; perfect for resupply ops. After some minor mechanical misadventure with one of the barges first thing this morning, we operated the rest of the day with two barges. As this is the first (or one of the first) resupply missions utilising two barges, we spent some time exploring operating configurations. We settled on one barge being dedicated to moving hard-cargo from ship to shore and the other doing the reverse. This optimised both crane and barge utilisation. In total we moved 26 containers today. We managed only one container movement after dinner as we had to complete repairs to the port crane. Today was not only successful in terms of the volume moved but demonstrated the underlying capacity of Nuyina and the barges to do more in optimal circumstances. We remain hopeful of another productive day tomorrow with the weather again forecast to be favourable.
Today also saw the departure of Voyage 2's Doctor who leaves us to join the Casey wintering team. We wish her well for the upcoming season. The refuelling team were hard at work again digging out bunds and draining fuel tank sumps; all on the back of having officially delivered the most fuel to Casey Station in any one voyage; this being some 1,030,400 litres. Well done to all involved. We also saw the Station-based Ardery Island expedition team, as supported by V2 watercraft operators, successfully complete a project to service or replace cameras used in the scientific observation of seabirds and penguins. This was an all day effort. Again, well done to all involved.
Regards
Keith and Nick
