All on board are well notwithstanding the rigours of continuous refuelling related ops over the last 24 hours.
The forecast for the early hours of this morning was 10 to 15 knots from the E/NE, reaching up to 20 knots at times. As circumstances transpired, the average 10 minute wind speeds exceeded 20 knots for significant periods of the early morning with gusts near double that figure. Whilst this in of itself posed little challenge, and was comfortably within our safe operating limits, the wind drove a significant volume of ice and bergy-bits onto or in close vicinity of the fuel line. At approximately 0130 we stopped pumping and cleared the line of fuel. At approximately 0230, we took the decision to defer consideration of recommencement of pumping until 0630. The ship was repositioned bow to the wind. The wind swung to the south west around 0730 and dropped to approximately 10 minute average 5knots. We recommenced pumping at approximately 0900.
At the time of writing, we have transferred approximately 50% of the planned volume. It is anticipated, weather permitting, pumping will be completed by approximately 0200 tomorrow. As to the forecast, it currently suggests 10 to15 knots W/SW this afternoon, and then swinging NW/NE 5/10 knots early tomorrow morning. Hoping the forecast holds true.
