A short reversing manoeuvre out of the Davis fast ice left a perfectly shaped 160m long lap pool for the resident penguins. Then a quick spin around to point north and we were on our way. A flock of Cape Petrels provided an escort off the premises as we headed out through the bergs and ex-fast ice. Onboard the ship we enjoy the last of the ice and calmer waters, while it lasts, which will perhaps not be for long. With more than 2500 nautical miles (4600 km, give or take) between us and Hobart, it's time to settle in for the journey home.
