The routine morning observations from the bridge with the morning cup of coffee was an unwelcome sight. Overnight, the fast ice edge had significantly deteriorated. Previously about 4 miles away, it was now an uncomfortably close ½ a mile away. With no certainly around whether this would continue to recede, all resupply activities were put on hold and instead prioritisation was given to make sure that people were on the right side of the ice if it were to continue its rapidly disappearing trend. Bags packed quickly and rushed farewells, saw all in a position for a quick get away if required. For now, the ice edge is remaining stable, and we are curious to see what tomorrows view brings.
