Comments

Yesterday evening we undertook another "ahead" test, finding sections of ice and snow up to 3m thick! It's fair to say it was difficult to maintain forward momentum through those thicker patches. Teams are out on the ice, under mostly clear skies but with cool temperatures, collecting thickness and flexural strength measurements. On completion of collecting the measurements here, our next manoeuvre will be a turning test. It's one thing to turn a ship of this size in open water, and quite another to turn in a patch of fast ice several metres thick.
