Behold the sun. If only for a short moment, yet long enough to enjoy a sunrise and the morning light reflect off patches of water between the ice. And now... visibility is reduced to several hundred metres and again it's snowing. We are making are way steadily through medium pack ice, 0.8 to 1.5m thick at a comfortable 8 -10 knots. The Nuyina showing its prowess in the conditions it was designed for. Our pursuit of ice is taking us towards the Four Ladies Bank, an underwater bank discovered by the Norwegians in 1937. It is supposed that this underwater bank was named after some "incredibly bold and fearless" Norwegian women, who were the first women to set foot on the Antarctic continent and likely also the first women to see Antarctica (and the aforementioned bank) from the air in a seaplane carried aboard their vessel.
