Bergs and birds have kept all enthralled for the past 24 hours. There has been a distinct change in the movement of the ship, from the pitch and roll of the ocean, to something that's occasionally "bumpy", as we pass through patches of pack ice. The low cloud and reduced visibility add a certain moodiness to the scene and makes us all appreciative of both the expertise of the crew (and the ship's radars) to aid in navigating through these bergy waters. Cape, Antarctic and snow petrels have all flanked the vessel and there have been reported sightings of penguins on floes of ice. Today marks two weeks since we departed Hobart, and serves as a reminder as to what a unique experience it is to be travelling through these Southern waters.
