Biding our time off the coast of Burnie with one eye on the horizon in anticipation of the arrival of the tanker vessel (due tonight) that will be delivering our much needed SAB (Special Antarctic Blend) diesel. This unique fuel blend is essential in Antarctica for keeping our stations and vehicles running, as the low density and viscosity of this fuel prevents it from solidifying in the freezing Antarctic temperatures. During the resupply at Davis, approx. 700,000 litres of this fuel will be delivered to Davis station, enough to keep the station warm and well lit for another year. In the meantime, the expeditioners are quietly passing the time in the spacious lounges and the comfortable, panoramic observation deck, perfect for vessel (and whale) spotting.
