The ships mighty horn blast echoed around Hobart Town as we pulled away from Macquarie wharf and headed out to sea. Turning east, instead of west, towards Burnie for essential refuelling before we make the turn south towards the icy continent. For the 77 expeditioners on board bound for Davis and Mawson Stations, the departure was met with a large sense of excitement and a small amount of trepidation. For some this marks the end of many months of pre-departure preparation and a collective sense of relief could be felt throughout the ship. All happy to be onboard and underway.
