In stark contrast to the day before, yesterday was relatively balmy with light winds, facilitating much progress with resupply. Fuel pumping ceased at 2200hrs with approximately 662 500 L of fuel delivered to station. Final figures will be known today once the fuel line has been cleared and retrieved. A significant amount of cargo was also off-loaded from the ship and a sense of progress resulted in many smiling faces at the end of the day. A BBQ dinner was held on station for the traditional hand-over ceremony including presentation of medallions to the outgoing wintering crew. An auction was also held for a magnificent ice-axe ice-axe made by Phil Marthick, one of the Davis winterers. This unique piece of Antarctic memorabilia is made of brass and sassafras, and mounted on a cedar backboard that depicts a scene from Davis inscribed in Indian ink. It went for a tidy sum of $3500. Another fantastic fundraising effort for Camp Quality. Today we finally have the feeling that we are in the 'Riveria of the South' with blue skies, sunshine and dazzling ice-bergs in our surrounds. Retrieval of the fuel hose and cargo operations will continue today. Regards, Karin, Sharon & Adam
