An exciting morning on board as we conducted some demersal trawling (a large trawl net used to catch fish and other biota on the sea floor or in the water column). We were able to successfully land the net on the sea floor and fully test the trawling capabilities of the vessel. We are now undertaking trials for a new capability within the AAD and on Nuyina -the towed camera frame. Using the Nuyina Underwater Towed Termination System (NUTTS) we will be streaming live information from various sensors including cameras that are attached to the frame as it is towed along. While these trials will be conducted in deep water today, the ultimate aim is to fly this equipment along the sea floor.
