Comments

Overnight we transited to a 600m depth mark to conduct a high precision acoustic positioning (HiPAP) calibration. The HiPAP pole is deployed through the hull of the ship and will be used during science operations to provide accurate positions of subsea objects such as remotely operated vehicles, autonomous underwater vehicles or CTDs. Today's operation has provided valuable training in this system and included a side outboard deployment of the sound velocity profiler and a HiPAP beacon mooring deployment/recovery. We started some ADCP bottom tracking tests last night and these will continue tonight as the ship heads to deeper water. The CTD has been prepared for tomorrows deep water deployment.

Regards,
Rick & Imojen
