Today had everything! Helicopter passenger transfers, followed by cargo from the back of the ship, whilst up front we continued sending cargo ashore on the LARCs. All the while mother nature threw everything at us from snow, to sleet, squalls, rain, wind and more rain. It was a day of stop and start for the deck teams and boaties, but we're slowly and steadily getting it done. It was great to get some of the many science teams ashore today to begin their work, in some cases only for a few hours, proving every minute on the ground here at Macquarie Island is worth it! Spare some thoughts for the teams we have deployed down island into the mist and howling winds of the sub-Antarctic and here's hoping they're safe and warm in a field hut after a cold day's walk.
