What a great day to arrive! Is a common expression when resupply vessels arrive on station to be greeted by waving expeditioners on shore and the excited team onboard. It's a slight misnomer though as we tend to purposefully avoid arriving in poor conditions, but non the less, it was a great day to arrive at Macquarie Island. After anchoring the ship we sent our LARC ashore with the watercraft team to assess the landing area and then a couple of quick trips to transfer 10 people (and one dog) ashore to setup for tomorrow's official start to resupply operations. Thanks to the crew of RSV Nuyina for a smooth and uneventful transit. All going well, tomorrow will be a flurry of helicopters, boats and scientists as we use the short daylight hours to do what we came here to do.
