Today, the ship continues on a westerly course with sea mist and occasional snow showers reducing visibility. Crew undertook emergency drills on the ship's helicopter deck and hangar whilst ingoing Macquarie Island expeditioners conducted further shipboard trainings in preparation for their disembarkation at Macca. Always a highlight, engine room tours have commenced with thanks to the Chief Engineer and his team for facilitating these of an afternoon. As our time aboard the vessel grows so too does our familiarity with its array of recreation spaces. Additional to the observation deck and primary lounge (aka 'ping pong room') on Deck 4, a growing number of expeditioners are making use of the adjacent lounge/library, whilst on Deck 6, a dedicated room for personal phone calls home has been established (comms permitting of course). A hasty replenishment of the theatre's lucky dip chocolate box has, for now, suppressed insinuations from ingoing station management types about hoarding.
Communications to the vessel have dropped today. Whilst diagnostics continue, it is not an uncommon feature as we move southwards. Our gratitude for the standard of comms thus far – as per yesterday's sit rep still stands.
Regards
James & Brendan
