Comments

RSV Nuyina continues to make steady progress towards Davis on a moderate ocean swell of 5-6 metres under an overcast sky. Around midday, ship's crew and our watercraft operators undertook the first of 25 spotter wave – ice buoy deployments. Autonomous drifters used to 'measure near sea-surface properties such as sea surface temperature' along a drift trajectory, these buoys will help 'improve our understanding of atmosphere-ocean interaction and provide information on wave generation, propagation and decay for wave models and also for ocean and atmosphere forecasting.' It is planned that a buoy will be deployed in .5 degree intervals during our journey south.

Crew were this morning involved in an inspection of the ship's global survival kit whilst incident management reviews and cargo planning sessions were undertaken early this afternoon. Tonight, we will turn our clocks backward one hour – the first of four time zone changes as approach Davis.

James & Brendan
