Yesterday at precisely 1800hs, Voyage 5 (V5) commenced with the departure of RSV Nuyina from Macquarie Wharf, Hobart.
Following the completion of pre-departure trainings (largely undertaken remotely during the requisite pre-departure quarantine period), our remaining complement of ship's crew and expeditioners joined us aboard the ship on Friday. By late afternoon Saturday, preparations for our departure were finalised. With the stage set for Hobart's Regatta Day celebrations. It was time for us to slip into the wings.
Today, 4nms down river at No 1. Anchorage, between the fair suburbs of Taroona and Tranmere we laid a scene of LARC (amphibious vehicle) manoeuvres and person overboard exercises. Opportunities to harmonise AAD and ship's crew approaches to cargo and emergency procedures in benign weather trials such as this is invaluable.
This evening, we will conduct a debrief of the day's activities, enjoy another excellent meal courtesy of the galley team, continue to familiarise ourselves with the ship's spaces and facilities, and look forward to tonight's firework display from our vantage point here on No.1 Anchorage.
Regards
James & Brendan
