Comments

We have spent the morning bobbing up and down about 70 nautical miles off South-east Tasmania while we once again deploy the CTD to 3700 metres depth to check the sound velocity profile. We will then commence the next phase of our multi-beam testing program before turning for home later in the day.

This is the last sitrep from the first polar voyage of RSV Nuyina. By the time we get into Hobart tomorrow morning, we will have covered more than 7000 nautical miles, conducted helicopter operations at Davis, delivered almost a million litres of fuel to Casey Station, made a solid start on commissioning the vessels complex and sophisticated scientific systems and mapped a previously unknown glacial canyon more than 2200 metres deep and more than 50km in length.

However, this afternoon we all face our most challenging test yet, as we nervously wait to see if we will pass the Chief Stewards cabin inspection.

Thanks to all of the crew and expeditioners on board RSV Nuyina for their effort, good humour and resilience in the face of all of the challenges that taking a new vessel to Antarctica inevitably brings.

See you soon.
