This morning, we are about 80 nautical miles to the south-east of Hobart and heading for the multi-beam reference site where we expect to arrive at around 1230. This location puts us at the foot of the continental shelf in around 3300 metres of water depth. On arrival, we will lower an instrument package almost all the way to sea floor to measure the sound velocity profile and then proceed to run a series of transects to check the performance of the multibeam sea floor mapping systems.
Because we'll be busy over the next few days, we had mocktails and a quiz last night to mark the end of the voyage. Heads were curiously clear this morning.
