Comments

Overnight, we continued to map the local area using the multibeam echo sounders while cooling the vessel in preparation for the cold weather fire suppression system tests.

The earnest desire of the acoustics team for the ship to sail in straight survey lines was continually thwarted by the earnest desire of the Officer of the Watch to avoid errant icebergs, but a happy medium was achieved, and by morning we had mapped a significant area to the south of the Browning Peninsula.

We then returned to the coldest area in front of the Vanderford Glacier to freeze the ship as much as possible. Unfortunately, as we approached the scenic glacier front once more, a thick curtain of snow was drawn firmly across the view. It didn't really matter because shortly afterwards, the forward hatches were raised to let all of that deliciously cool air into the forward spaces (along with the snow). The crew are currently down there opening valves, pressing buttons and probably wondering when we can start doing some of that nice warm science work again.

Our doctors, Dane and David, have started administering Covid booster shots to crew and expeditioners in preparation for our return to a world, that sounds like it has changed a lot since we left.
