This morning finds us 55 nautical miles to the north-west of Casey creeping through variable pack, horizontal snow and poor visibility. It's 50 shades of grey out there at the moment with snow eddies twirling on the tops of the cranes early this morning. We continue to cautiously make our way through the pack at reduced speed in case something should go bump in the night.

Things are warming up inside the ship with the ship ping-pong championship taking full advantage of smoother sea conditions to provide a generally more predictable bounce. In a major upset, the Voyage Leader was quickly dispatched in the first round at the hands by the Senior Gear Officer and was forced to leave the court with the words "I haven't played in a while" ringing hollowly in his ears. The VL then retired to his cabin to lick his wounds and write about himself in the third person.

We will be at Casey either later this evening or in the morning. Preparations for refuelling proceed apace. The weather gods are teasing us with a possible opening over the next four days. Let's see how we go.
