Yesterday, we successfully deployed and recovered the CTD several times through the moon pool.
Having done so, we continued on our easterly course towards Casey. This morning, we tested the fibre optic tow cable with the Rectangular Midwater Trawl (RMT) net and our design engineering team of Kym and Will were able to obtain live high definition video images from the net at 500 metres depth which is a significant milestone in this project.
The practical effect of this achievement is that a piece of scientific equipment at 4000 metres depth being towed behind the vessel, will have better data connectivity than that provided by your average NBN connection. This opens up all sorts of interesting possibilities.
We are now proceeding to Casey to refuel the station.
