Comments

The news of the last 24 hours is that RSV Nuyina crossed the 60th parallel at 11:30pm last night, just making it across the line into Antarctic waters in 2021.

2022 finds us in glorious shorts and T-Shirt weather over 300 miles to the north of Casey heading for our turning point into Prydz Bay about 800 nautical miles to the west. We passed by another isolated berg in the afternoon after which the ship was enveloped in light blowing snow. The weather accompanied the New Year's eve quiz night which was held in the Sky lounge with quiz masters Dane and Anton.

It turned out to be a hard fought quiz battle with the top four teams being so close at the end of regular questions that an elimination round of Mario Kart was held to get to a final two. Then Dane pulled out the nuclear option and a bruising round of rock-paper-scissors determined the final winner. Well done Hayden and team.

This morning, we are pushing through the post new year's eve blurriness to get on with work and we have slowed to do some pressure testing on the fibre optic tow system being developed by Kym and Jim. The first deployment went to 1000 metres depth and survived. After today's operations, we will push on to Davis for helicopter operations.
