This morning brings our first iceberg. Murmurs started just before 10am that something big was on our path, and by 11am it was visible dead ahead; a wave washed veteran of some now distant glacier. All the youngsters were crowding the observation lounge taking pictures of it while the older ones took pictures of young people taking pictures of their first iceberg.
I don't think we can quite claim to be in the Antarctic yet, but it's certainly a promising start. The masters first act was to remove the iceberg sweep board from the mess. The berg has to be abeam (beside) of the ship for the time of sighting to be registered, so officially, we still haven't seen it.
New Year's Eve preparations are underway with mocktails planned for the sky lounge at 7pm.
