The AIVIQ departed Macquarie Island with 62 souls onboard at 0915 this morning.
Station Leader and Voyage Leader traded messages of good luck and farewell via radio and we received the traditional send-off of flares.
A lone wandering albatross followed the ship as the island slipped over the horizon to our stern.
We are currently steaming West to avoid the worst of a large system to our North and it's accompanying 6-8m swell. Despite the Masters best efforts, it is likely we will still encounter heavy seas over 24-36 hours beginning tomorrow morning, before we turn NW and head for Hobart as conditions ease.
All aboard are excited to be heading home and are in good spirits.
ETA Hobart remains early PM SAT 08 APR
