The Main Lounge was full for the third night in a row. We came to see lots of penguin photos and were not disappointed. Station Leader Bec first talked about the history, scientific importance, and psychological benefits of Auster Rookery. This was followed by an incredible photographic slideshow. The general consensus is that Emperor Penguin chicks are the cutest animal ever and that we should all do a winter at Mawson just so we can see these remarkable birds for ourselves.
We moved our clocks forward another hour last night. It meant one hour less sleep (or a longer sleep in), but we are now only one hour behind Hobart. We also crossed the Antarctic Convergence. The air temperature has not changed significantly, but this is probably due to the strong southwesterly breeze showering us with cold Antarctic air.
Today, EPRs continue for Voyage Support personnel. There are also the daily activities of Catan, Deck of Cards, and Alone. After the 1900 meeting, Davis Winterer Derryn will talk about his work surveying Emperor Penguins from the sky.
