Comments

It is a quiet day on board as we settle back into life on the Southern Ocean. There was an array of wildlife spotted yesterday as we passed through the sea ice - adelie penguins, emperor penguins, leopard seals, crabeater seals, cape petrels, southern fulmars, and more. The only thing missing was whales. But it seems they were just waiting for the right moment; only minutes ago, a pod of humpbacks decided to show off their tails right next to the ship. It was such a good display that Anthony rushed down to notify the deck of cards workouters. Maddie and Tim ran up to the bridge immediately and stood outside in their gym gear to snap photos of the whales.

We continue sailing North at almost record-speed for AIVIQ. There are still icebergs dotting the horizon but they won't last for long. The weather has so far been kind and we have only a gentle roll to remind us we are at sea. We ran out of aero-press coffee yesterday and the plunger coffee supply is also dwindling. It is a far cry from the plight of the early Antarctic explorers, however, and I'm sure we will get by just fine with drip-coffee and tea.

REGARDS: Sam and Anthony
