We now have 15 new Southern Ocean Sea Dogs on board. Following a ceremony for our first-time line crossers overseen by King Neptune, the occasion was celebrated with some non-alcoholic beer and tim tams. The afternoon was spent watching whales, deploying ARGO floats, and finalising rosters and operational plans. Ryan, Ben, and Alex spent hours building the obstacle course for the third and final round of the AIVIQ Grand Prix. They even made a teaser video! It looks incredibly challenging but they have assured me it is possible. We will find out tonight when every expeditioner has a chance to tackle the course.
Yesterday evening, Jeff delivered the official refuelling brief. It was comprehensive and clear and made the process look easy. Hopefully the weather plays nice and we have a very boring refuel. Our fifth and final ARGO float was deployed overnight by Anthony. This now means that two out of five of our science projects have successfully been completed. We will deploy a KOMBI mooring this evening (around 2100) and retrieve two KOMBIs tomorrow. After that, we will just have sea ice monitoring (yet to actually see any sea ice!) and bird nest camera changeouts at Mawson.
REGARDS: Sam and Anthony
