Last night's science brief was a hit. Everyone had gathered in the main lounge for the nightly 7pm catch-up (although informal, we almost always have full attendance). Upon finishing the meeting, Sam opened the door to the adjacent Smokers Lounge and out stepped Anthony and Maddie in full 'mad scientist' costume. They were met with a round of laughter. For around an hour, Anthony and Maddie spoke about ARGO floats, whale moorings, KOMBI moorings, sea ice monitoring, and seabird nest cameras. It was certainly the most engaging brief delivered to date for this voyage.
The ocean is being kind after the big seas experienced a couple of days ago. We still have a gentle 3 metre roll and are delighting in the ability to walk in a straight line and put things on tables. Chief wildlife spotter Tim has seen two pods of dolphins, which he has identified as Hourglass Dolphins.
Field Training Officer Dave has begun his shipboard training for the new wintering Mawson team. Today they will learn about radio protocol on station and safe sea ice travel.
REGARDS: Sam and Anthony
