Yesterday there were sounds of laughter coming from the recreation room as Mario cart was given a pretty good workout – cars playing soccer. Bizarre concept but funny to watch.
This morning expeditioners, Deputy Voyage Leader and the Chief Officer gathered up all of the AAD lifting and lashing gear that was used around the ship during resupplies. This was consolidated and loaded back into bins and cage pallets for transport back to Hobart.
We did a man overboard drill this morning. The scenario was that someone had gone overboard, he was kept in sight, the ship turned around, the fast rescue craft picked him up, he was back on board but still in the boat. The exercise started at this point. Our task was to take the person out of the boat, place him on a stretcher and move him partway along the deck – end of exercise with a debrief after. The exercises a good reminder that incidents can happy and all on board need to know how to respond to ensure the best outcome possible in the circumstances.
Prior to the drill there was a discussion and briefing on what actions would be taken if the main engine cut out and there was a blackout.
Cheers
