Yesterday we started backloading the priority cargo to the ship, watching the weather as we did so for a suitable window to enable us to depart the harbour, with preparations made for our departure even as cargo operations continued. The winds eventually dropped to a safe level for our exit and the call was made to cease cargo operations, shortly before we made our way out of Horseshoe Harbour .
Unfortunately, shortly after our exit the vessel is understood to have come to rest on a shoal just outside of the Harbour. The vessel was positioned on the shoal for around an hour before we were able to float free and we moved into Kista Strait adjacent to Mawson station.
After engineering assessments by the ship's crew, our friends on the Aiviq lead us through the sea ice and Iceberg Alley and by Saturday evening we were making our way North, headed home to Hobart. Everyone on board is fit and healthy and looking forward to seeing Hobart after a long voyage.
Cheers
