Yesterday we entered Kista Strait late morning and the barge Peter Gormly came out to the Happy Diamond to pick up two of our roundtripping personnel to go ashore at Mawson. While ashore they helped in the kitchen and green store (warehouse) with our Communications Technical Officer taking the opportunity to learn more about the shore side of the AAD's communications systems. Any chance to see how systems work at any of our stations is extremely beneficial to the individual as well as the AAD as it provides an understanding of the difficulties, complexities and constraints of operating in Antarctica.
During the day we continued stooging in the local area and are doing so this morning waiting for Aiviq to complete refuelling operations. This is expected to occur later today after which the Aiviq will leave Horseshoe Harbour and the Happy Diamond will move in. The afternoons and evenings tend to have better weather and as the wind needs to be below 15 knots for us to enter the harbour and taking the opportunity to do this tonight means that we are in place to commence resupply tomorrow. We have had briefings on the mooring process and their will be further planning and briefings today before mooring operations commence.
It is a very calm day today with a very gentle swell that is quite soothing. This is the calmest it has been at this time of the day (1030 Mawson time) since we arrived.
Cheers
Leanne and Jacob
