Wow, it seems like we just left Davis and here we are 2 hours away from arriving at Mawson.
After a quiet transit yesterday, last night we travelled past iceberg D-32 which is a large iceberg of around 18km long. The sun was starting to set during this time with the yellows, oranges and reds as a backdrop created a stunning site. Other small bergs were silhouetted in the glow of the setting sun.
Early this morning a pod of killer whales was sighted as we were making our way along iceberg alley. On both side of the 'alley' are grounded icebergs of all shapes and sizes. There was a large jade iceberg that appeared to be almost black. I am looking forward to taking a photo of it on our departure from Mawson as it was tucked behind other icebergs and was not visible unless you were looking out of the back of the ship – too far away to get a good photo.
We can see the plateau and mountains behind Mawson and we are looking forward to arriving with our approach akin the one into Davis – the sun shining and glistening off of the icebergs.
Cheers
Leanne and Jacob
