Just when we thought we would finish backloading RTA cargo this morning the swell and wind decided not to abide by the plan. We were able to do six cargo runs before operations were shut down. The pontoons are tied up against the side of the ship and the barge is staying in the lee of the ship. We are hoping that the situation will settle this afternoon so we can complete resupply – 4 runs to go – so close. As previously mentioned in my sitreps the weather dictates when we can undertake our tasks.
Unfortunately this means that the trips ashore this afternoon for the crew and tours of the ship for Davis expeditioners cannot go ahead. Tomorrow's weather forecast looks good so we will do the tours then.
We are also planning on doing a boat trip to two of the local islands, Magnetic & Gardner to do camera downloads and maintenance. These cameras are part of an ongoing science program that gathers information on nesting birds. The task entails changing out SD cards in the cameras and undertaking any maintenance that is required.
Cheers
