Cargo operations continued yesterday until 3pm to allow station time to move a number of customised containers into the heli hangar. A resupply is not only cargo movement between ship to shore, it also includes the coordination of cargo movements on station, where the cargo will be put, the machinery to move cargo, and sometimes there is a specific requirement to deal with cargo in a particular manner such as above. Other elements could be the changeover of wintering teams and support of projects which we do not need to factor in for this voyage.
Cargo operations are humming this morning with next to no wind, the ice is keeping out of the way of the watercraft, all occurring with the most extraordinary backdrop. It snowed heavily last night and Davis and the Vestfold Hills are covered. From the bridge of the ship we can also see bursts of sunlight shining off the plateau behind the Vestfold Hills – it is stunningly beautiful.
