Yesterday afternoon we were hoping the winds would subside enough to put our barge on the water to bring the Davis resupply team to the ship for a meeting. Even though the winds dropped somewhat there was no value in people potentially getting wet or cold for one meeting so the meeting took place this morning. We confirmed how the resupply and cargo movements are planned to run, our communication strategy and visits ashore for roundtrip personnel and ship crew.
The Deputy Voyage Leader and the Chief Officer have gone ashore and as I write this they are doing compliance checks on RTA (return to Australia) cargo. We are planning to start sending cargo ashore this afternoon.
The weather is a contrast to the last 3 days – blue sky everywhere you look and the sun is blazing in the windows of the bridge making us nice and warm. It is not so pleasant outside with the temperature of -3.4 degrees with a wind chill factor of -11 degrees. Hopefully it warms up by the time the watercraft start operations this afternoon.
We had one wintering expeditioner on board and we bid him a fond farewell this morning as he headed off to his new home. He was a delight to have on board and we all wish him and the Davis team a fantastic and safe winter.
Cheers
Leanne and Jacob
