As we are due at Davis tomorrow afternoon it was time to have a cargo meeting, mainly with the watercraft team but other interested expeditioners also came along. I provided an update on our arrival and the plan that will flow after arrival. The DVL provided a briefing on cargo operations, the general order of cargo discharge and when we will be able to backload RTA cargo and the watercraft we are planning on using. We briefly touched on the Mawson resupply but more detailed briefings will occur towards the end of the Davis resupply and prior to our arrival.
This morning we had an abandon ship drill. The Captain briefed us on the bridge then we were off to our muster stations with our survival gear and life jackets. We split into 2 groups with each group going to different lifeboats. We were run through the process of launching them. The crew launch the lifeboats but if this is not possible then everyone needs to know how to do it. The lifeboat on the stern of the ship is on a very steep angle and is aimed at the water. When you get in it is like walking down a very steep set of stairs. You enter the door at the stern of the lifeboat and fill up the seats from bow to the stern and harness yourself in. No one wants to end up in one of these but if you do it is comforting to know what it looks like and how to launch it if need be.
Cheers
