Today was another highly successful day for the team preparing for Casey Refuel. Preparations now include AAD staff aboard AIVIQ, Casey Personnel and ships crew.
Today there were two main focuses. The boating team were busy conducing crew induction training, while the refueling supervisor was working with the Casey Station Mechanical Supervisor (SMS) and team to conduct all station-based preparations.
Yesterdays weather report indicated there is likely to be adverse weather coming Wednesday afternoon with winds of sufficient strength to stop boating operations. If this occurs we would be unable to conduct our final of three sessions of boat crew induction training. To address this issue Voyage Management engaged with AIVIQ Crew and requested assistance for PAX transfer and equipment movements this morning. AIVIQ crew were more than happy to assist and as a result conducted the transfer if 13 PAX from ship to Casey and the movement of all pers and refuelling equipment.
Due to our early arrival at Casey, the boat crew were able to conduct ice line deployment yesterday which was originally planned for today. Completing this activity early, coupled with the assistance provided by AIVIQ meant boat crew were able to focus solely on crew induction training today and have now completed crew induction for two of the three groups. The final group will be done tomorrow morning and all training should be complete prior to any poor weather arriving.
A similar situation occurred with the refuelling team in that they were able to complete all ship-based preparations yesterday. This afforded them the opportunity to spend the entire day preparing at Casey and all physical refuelling preparations should be complete by lunch tomorrow.
Finally, today we said farewell to 10 of our members who were transferred to station to commence various activities in support of science. We wish these members the best of luck with activities and thank them for their friendship on the southbound journey.
Regards,
Trent and Cam
