After a late afternoon departure with the Shipping team waving us off from the wharf, we enjoyed superb conditions and blue skies as we made our way past the Iron Pot and out into Storm Bay. This marks the beginning of our 4838km voyage to Davis Station where we will discharge three helicopters, six expeditioners and, if conditions allow some priority cargo for the season. A relatively calm first night with a gentle swell was appreciated by all on board as we settled into the routine of shipboard life. The morning started straight after breakfast with all assembled for a safety briefing from the Captain and the crew familiarizing us with the lifeboat. This will be the first of many drills that we can expect throughout the voyage as we learn how to prepare for shipboard emergencies. Our friends on the AIVIQ are also making their way to Davis and there is much speculation on board as to when we will first spot them on the horizon. Perhaps a sweep is in order!
