There are only two questions today. How much further? And when are we going to get there?
The first of those questions is easy to answer. Well, kind of. We can measure the distance on the map with accuracy. A line between two points. One that measures 155nm. However, this does not reflect the distance that we may travel, as we look for open water between ice. It is certainly a case of the fastest distance between two points is not necessarily a straight line.
The second of those questions, well, that's harder again. Not only will it depend on how much we weave between ice, but when weaving is not an option, how much the ice will slow us down. Despite high-tech satellite images that indicate where there is water and where there is ice, and years of navigating Antarctic waters, mother nature will still have the final say.
